Dynamics NAV – Directions EMEA Conference in Rome in April!

Hi everyone For all you Dynamics NAV partners wishing to find out more about the up coming Dynamics NAV “7″- there is a conference for you to be held in Rome, Italy, in late April.  I’m hoping to go and it would be great to have a NZ contingent there!  As far as I know this is probably the only conference like this we’ll get before the launch, but if it proves as valuable as the Dynamics AX Tech Conference which I went to last year in the US, it will be GREAT! Directions EMEA is an event organized by Partners for Partners – this event is held on April 25-27, 2012 in Rome . The event is aimed at both VAR and ISV partners – there are tracks for sales, business, consultants, technical training as well as guided hands-on labs. You should go there to get up to speed on Microsoft Dynamics NAV “7”, networks with peers and engage with Microsoft.

Costa Concordia: The Goals of Software Architecture

With the tragedy of the Costa Concordia, design with the human in the control loop comes to mind.  A cruise ship is a large system with many moving parts and error points.  In a large mechanical system like a ship have long used computers, in the past the computers might have been the sextant to determine position, the length and angle of a rope pulled by a rock for speed, as well as other analog types of tools.  In some cases, though not many, analog computers can be faster and more accurate than digital computers.  No matter what you use, what are the goals of Software Architecture? So what is good Software Architecture? Good architecture reduces the business risks associated with building a technical solution

Visual Studio 11 ALM Advances

Happy new year. Over the last several months since //BUILD/, I’ve published multiple blog posts outlining advancements made in Visual Studio 11, from languages to the .NET Framework to IDE productivity to platform-specific tooling .  I’m concluding this five-post series with a look at some of the work that’s gone into making Visual Studio 11 a premier system for Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).  Since many of these features were first announced at TechEd North America 2011, many individuals from my division have spoken and blogged quite eloquently about the new capabilities, so I’ll use this opportunity simply to highlight a few of these new features and to point you to the other resources they’ve created to describe them in more depth. The ALM offering in Visual Studio 11 was designed to enable improved collaboration amongst team members, accelerate the adoption of agile processes, and improve the cycle that links development and operations.  I’ll take a look at a few examples of how Visual Studio 11 achieves this

Expression Blend 4: Gaming the system: Moving an object on the screen

We all know that guy who is always gaming the system, it’s so irritating, you don’t quite know how he does it, and his career kind of sucks, but somehow he figures it out.  Of course in software there are a lot of people who game the system, here is a clue: Software is about gaming the system.

(95×95) /primaryImage?width=95&height=95&resize=true">http://catalog.zune.net/v3.2/ja-JP/apps/<AppId>…( read more )
