The link between ID theft and going green

One thing I’ve been impressed by as I’ve settled in to life in the US is the easy with which you can choose to have most of your statements from banks, insurance, utilities and pretty much everyone else delivered to you electronically. The reason most companies give for this choice (which they often set as the default) is to save trees – my suspicion is they’re at least as keen to help you avoid ID theft but they don’t mention that for fear of spooking people

Talking to Slate

No, I haven’t got myself an iPad and starting talking to it….I’m talking about a demo fest I helped host yesterday with the crew from Slate’s Culture Gabfest . Stephen Metcalf, Dana Stevens, and Julia Turner came by to check out Kinect so Ryan Moore and I took them over to our Visitor Center and showed them River Rush, Kinect Sports, Kinectimals and a few other things.

Technology meets the football…at last

The video speaks for itself – this ball could change the game of football and usher in an era of transparency…and statistical overload. The obvious features are the ability for the ball to highlight when it’s crossed a line for a goal, corner, or throw in. Perhaps even more interesting is the stats that could be generated from this thing – we’d get very accurate details of time in play, speed of travel and if players had RFID in their boots we could see who had spent most time with the ball at their feet

What next in the adventures of Kinect?

A very nice find my by my UK pal Rob Margel   – a Kinect interactive experience in Germany. Shoppers took control of the Stachus gate with their leaping, dancing and waving. I don’t know who Sylvie van der Vaart is but she has some HUGE hoop earrings and seemed to love it

Lync day at Microsoft

I’m sat in Building 34 on Microsoft Campus in Redmond and just caught the end of the webcast from our Lync launch today in NYC. I missed the part with BillG but a fun moment to see him back “on stage” with ChrisCap. They have that famous moment together of course… It’s been a crazy month of launches around here – Windows Phone 7, Kinect, Lync….the hits just keep on coming and I hope Wall Street is watching

The future of shopping?

This video from Cisco is so good in so many ways though a quick reality check with my wife confirmed that she’d much rather try the stuff on and do this to see how it fits, who the fabric feels etc. Me, I’d be much happier with this time saving approach so maybe they should have shot the video using men? Aside from that, seen any technology that could allow you to do this?

Nike Air Innovation

Nope, not a new Nike shoe but a clever and funny ad. I love the squealing Sharapova shoe.

Looking back for inspiration

Imagine how much business this Mc Donald’s would get it if was still open in LA. People would drive miles to this place to have their photo taken and check it out. Sometimes progress isn’t so good.
