Joining Lync Server conferences with Mac Communicator 13.0

With the release of Mac Communicator version 13.0.0 Mac users now have the ability to join scheduled conferences and participate in IM, voice, and video natively. But there may be a problem if your company has deployed the new Lync Server 2010 and the new Lync Web App.  With Lync Server conference join URLs have become a bit friendlier.  When you receive an email inviting you to a conference the join URL will now look something like https://join.contoso.com/meet/bobm/VDHGDAXF

Percentages from the last "bug bash"

We had a ” bug bash ” on some sync features in OneNote last week.  I thought it may be interesting to look at the resolution of the bugs we found since I mentioned that some of the bugs reported in these situations may duplicates of each other and things like that.  (Please don’t read too much into this.  These stats are merely the result from one single test effort over the course of 2 days of testing and may not be indicative of any other statistics from other teams.)  After the two days of testing, we had 14 reported bugs.  4 of them – 28% – have already been closed.  We had an inconsistent server configuration and that led to some noise when we first started.  Once we investigated the server, we figured out we had not set it up correctly, but by then these bugs had already been entered.  Obviously, we need to get setup working (and we will!) and we simply got these bugs off our radar.  One bug was resolved as a duplicate to a pre-existing bug.  That’s 7%,albeit only a single bug report

Adding Color to Bash List Command Part II

I previously blogged about how to add color to the ‘ls’ command utilizing an config file and alias.  I then stumbled across a nugget of wisdom from a Foresight Linux user on the developers mailing list who gave a handy command that remedies some problems with missing color in a terminal. On some distributions, the system-wide /etc/DIR_COLORS * files are removed or not present.  This results in no colors being given inside of a terminal when looking for color directories and filenames.  If you find yourself in this boat, try the following command to re-populate this setting: devnet-> cd ~/ devnet-> dircolors -p >.dircolors This should create a default profile for colors for your session if it hasn’t been done or was accidentally removed.  For more information on the dircolors command try ‘man dircolors’.  Please also note that dircolors command uses the environmental variable LS_COLORS to set your session. For more information on LS_COLORS and how it pertains to the terminal/shell/cli/prompt, there are a few blog posts that do an excellent job explaining here , here and here .

HOT: This Week in Redmond

Most families on the Pacific Coast in Washington do not have air conditioning in their house. So this is very hot weather for us as projected for this week: While this is probably not noteworthy in much of the United States, I can tell you it is scorching weather for us
