The Observer of Perception

Sometimes as a manager, I not only want to coach people on how to get things done at work, I’d love to be able to help them change the way they think.  Early in my career, an engineering coworker used to say that it’s all about “behavior modification” but I truly never understood what he meant at the time.  Now I do.

What I am Chattering about Lately (and REPEATEDLY) on Twitter Lately

In case you haven’t heard, I am ALL OVER social networking.  If you follow my personal account , it’s full of cooking stories and food pics, DIY and crafting advice, My Fluevog shoe obsession, cute pictures of my dog, cute pictures of OTHER people’s dogs and tech stuff.  Maybe not your cup of tea, cause you just want the tech stuff.  Well, I have another Twitter account that I occasionally allude to, and it’s strictly business. Windows Azure … the Cloud OS — Part 1

During the key note address at Tech Ed ME 2011 in Dubai yesterday, I was asked by a Microsoft customer: “What is Windows Azure?.” I then realized that we, at Microsoft, may not be doing as good a job as we should in getting the word out and this is where the idea for this blog post came about:   I label is “Part 1” because no single blog post can explain it with merits in one shot so more to come on the subject. Let me first tell you “some” of what Windows Azure is NOT. It is NOT the next version of Windows Client (Windows 7) and it is NOT the next version of Windows Server (2008 R2) either

Windows Client Track at Tech Ed Middle East 2011 – The Pragmatic Approach!

This post is a little deviation from my Cloud related focus on this blog but I also own the Windows Client Track at Tech Ed Middle East 2011 – Tech Ed is a premier technical education event that takes place once a year at only handful locations around the world. Having it in Dubai for the second year in a row brings a tremendous advantage and value to the region.   My selection of this content is very pragmatic.

Going Beyond ‘Five Nines’ Uptime on the Microsoft Platform

Payments processing has always demanded a high performance, and highly resiliant platfrom. This is true of Fedwire and other RTGS systems, national ACH systems, and card transaction platforms alike. As the first of these systems was implemented in the 1970s and 1980s it isn’t surprising that mainframe architectures have prevailed in this space ever since.
