I was recently involved in a situation were the Reporting Library deployment from Dynamics AX 2009 to SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services was not working correctly. More concrete, after the Reporting Libraries were extracted, compiled and the deployment to the SSRS started, soon the following error was displayed: Unable to connect to http://server/ReportServer/ReportService2005.asmx as specified in the config file for the report server at C:…RSReportServer.config. If this url is not correct please update the config file, otherwise make sure the report server is configured correctly.

The Winforms ReportViewer in Visual Studio Pro will allow you define client reports with a variety of data sources. While Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports allowed in in Dynamics AX 4.0 a user to create Ad’hoc reports that were only based on the data stored in the Dynamics AX database, in Dynamics AX 2009 Production reports allow also the execution of Business Logic. The Business Logic can either be X++ code in the AOT or C# code directly in the SSRS report.

Today’s guest blogger, CRM MVP Frank Lee , describes reporting options available for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online. Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online is a fantastic CRM platform for most small medium businesses (SMB) – it is so easy and inexpensive to get started.  However, one area of challenge for Microsoft CRM Online is custom reporting.  Some background on this.  Unlike Microsoft CRM On-Premise, Microsoft CRM Online does not support uploading of SQL Report Services (SRS) custom reports (.RDL) or accessing the SQL Server Database filtered views.  CRM Online does not allow users to directly access the CRM Application Server or Database Server – this is a good thing to maintain security and the 99.9% uptime for all the companies that are running on Microsoft CRM Online.  In fact, I’m not aware of any other major On-Demand Business Application vendors allowing their users to directly access the application or database server.

As the team roles out the spring update for adCenter and the new version of the API, our adCenter API Live Meetings with the development team will resume on Wednesday, June 3, at 1 PM Pacific time. The previously scheduled webcast for Wednesday May 20th is postponed.
